Mean, clean, and not-so-lean

So, the carpet cleaning guy came yesterday. The bad news? He sees the carpets from "guys that work at Tinker" that get this odd grey stuff tracked on them, that's very hard to get out of carpet. Meh.

Yeah, we have some of it. But, at least it's evenly distributed and doesn't look too bad, just like ... a traffic area.

The good news? The carpet only has a four-year life to it (thank you, apartment carpet) and the guy said he'd never have guessed that (1) we live here 2 years and (2) we have two pets.

SO.

Everything's good with the carpet.

On the not-so-lean front, I need to get back in the gym. I guess I'm just vocalizing that here (haha, vocalizing on a blog, as if) because I'm feeling sedentary and more pudgy than normal.

And mean? Yeah, I'm just feeling mean.

BAH!

Insurance

I decided to take some of the beautiful blueberries that we bought at the farmer's market this weekend, and try to infuse some vodka with them.

So I washed them, put them in a glass bottle with cork, and poured the vodka over them. I think it'll take a week or two.

I am also infusing some lemon vodka with the zest of a gorgeous lemon I bought.

I figure, if I have this to look forward to, then I will most certainly end up pregnant so I can't drink it.

Right? Right?

A kitty needs a home.

While you're all feeling generous and digging into your pockets to sponsor us in the Blogathon, please also stop by and see Aza and see if you can help her with finding a home for a special kitty.

Aza came close to witnessing an act of heinous animal cruelty on a 10-week-old kitten, and then she and her family rescued the kitten. She's not asking for money -- she's asking to find this kitty a home.

The kitten (estimated at between 10 and 12 weeks old) as of 2:45am is still alive and seems to be stabilizing. The vet said she didn’t know how severe the brain damage would be but felt that she would make it a good recovery with a lot of time and work. We have to pick her up by 7:30am (in just a few hours) and will take her to my regular vet by 8am to see what else can be done.

Once she has recovered, if anyone reading this in Florida/Georgia would like to adopt a special needs (I’m assuming she’ll be deaf in one ear and will walk with a head tilt at the least) kitty (or knows anyone who would)- I will pay ALL vet bills including her spay, vaccines, FIV/FeLV test and travel to get her to you.
I just ask the following…

Indoor only, No declawing, Good Diet, and Lots of love.

PLEASE GO SEE AZA and PLEASE SEND THIS AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE. Let's find this beautiful little kitty a forever home with a family that will love it for all of its days.

The Itch, Part Deux

Goddammit.

So the carpet stretchers have come and gone. And what happened?

S. decided the living room looked 100x better when it only had one-third of the living room furniture in it.

Well, duh.

See, here's the issue. We have a sectional. The sectional? She is hugely obnoxiously huge. Did we realize it wouldn't adequately fit in the living room when we first RENTED the apartment? No.

So, we hauled that bad boy up the stairs and that's when I had the first panic attack.

We ended up storing the "corner" piece of the sectional in the storage unit and making an "L" shape out of the other two pieces. Not the bestest situation evar, but it's something that has worked out for us. Until now.

Now that we had to move all the stuff around, S. has decided that perhaps we could arrange the living room by taking the two straight halves of the sectional, and placing them end-to-end, making one huge 15 foot long sofa.

The problem with this?

The living room wall is 15 feet long.

That's right, boys and girls, the "living room traditionalist" in me is FREAKING OUT at the idea of having 15 feet of couch and no end tables with little table lamps and places to put nick-nacks.

Freaking. The. Hell. Out.

Does the living room look better? Yes. Because it's not crowded.

Does the living room look weird? Yes. Becuase it's a 15-foot sofa.

The kicker? We just signed another year's lease this morning, so they could finish the carpet stretching and pay for it (as well as a carpet cleaning).

DAMN YOU, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL, DAMN DAMN DAMN.

So, some living room furniture is in the office. Some of it is in the guest room. And some of it is in the living room. And I have been asked to hold off on obssessively-compulsively returning the living room to its previous, crowded configuration until after S. gets home from work.

Problems with this set-up:

1) no indirect lighting (we have a ceiling fan with a light).
2) IT'S 15 FEET OF COUCH.
3) Nowhere to put the surround-sound side speakers, which were quite expensive to purchase, and which did not come with floor stands (not that there'd be any room for floor stands anyway), since IT'S 15 FEET OF COUCH.

Benefits of this set-up:

1) We could snuggle on the couch.
2) A little better suited to having people over in our living room (could previously only seat three, because of the wacky configuration of the "L" shape and the fact that some of the couch butted against another part of the couch, rendering that portion of the seat unusable.
3) Looks more open, which makes it look bigger.

AAAAAAAAUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

I DO NOT WANT TO BUY NEW LIVING ROOM FURNITURE.

Ease up there, Naggy McNaggerson.

Yup, that would be me.

Nag, nag, nag, nag, nag.

But! There's seriously, seriously, nothing more important on my mind today than getting as many of you that can, to sponsor us in the Blogathon.

See that red, white and blue button at the top of my blog entries? How about the beautiful blue-with-pink-bra jobber in the sidebar? Or all those links?

Honestly. Please, please, can't you do this?

There's eight of us blogging for charity. EIGHT of us. And we need all of your help.

This isn't just pledging money and getting nothing in return. Besides helping a FABULOUS CHARITY that is doing some phenominal things for the injured servicemen and servicewomen who are returning from the war, besides karma, there are other benefits to sponsorship.

1) You get a tax write-off.
2) You'll feel warm and fuzzy knowing you did something great.
3) With a minimum $5 pledge, you get entered into a drawing for a really awesome prize at the end of the Blogathon. (Note: The IFHF's online donation page only accepts a minimum of $10 donation, but you could mail your donation in via snail mail).
4) We will be playing an interactive mystery game all day on the Blogathon just for you, so you'll be able to stop by and play with us.
5) There might be prizes for the game, too!

Come on. Please, please, won't you consider sponsorship? Plus, Betty is trying to link back to all the sponsors, so perhaps it could be a nice shout-out for your blog.

Look. It's Monday. And, Mondays suck. And mine so far, is particularly suckworthy. So, make my day a little less asstastic. Make YOUR day a little less craptacular. Do something selfless, something that will make you feel better, something that will help someone who truly both needs and deserves your help.

Please, today, help make a difference in someone's life.

SPONSOR US IN BLOGATHON. PLEASE. PLEASE, I'M BEGGING.

And nagging.

And begging.

We're nesting. That's the ticket.

So, we've been in an interesting predicament lately. I don't think I've blogged about it, but I've been meaning to.

The crux of the quandary is that we live in Oklahoma City. Here, if renting an apartment, there are either "average lodging options" (read: 30-year-old apartments with small windows that smell funny and provide you with neighbors of questionable worth as human beings) or there are "luxury lodging options" which cost 2-3x the average local rent, but are shiny! and new! and sparkly! and luxurious!

Being a military family, the Air Force gives us something called a "housing allowance." For those who aren't privy to how that works, they basically survey the average cost of rent/mortgage + utilities in the area where you live, and they estimate it, and give you slightly less than that every month to help you make the bills. The other choice is to live on base, which wasn't an option for us as there was a 1-year waiting list when we arrived for a 900 square foot 2 bedroom house that wouldn't have held us and all of our shit.

When we picked our apartments, we were very lucky. We picked a 1250 square foot 3-bedroom unit overlooking the pool at a "luxury lodging" complex. Luxury because it is brand-brand new (we're the first ones to live in the apartment, and were the first family in our building), because it has great amenities on the property, and because it costs more than our housing allowance to live here.

Short of buying a house, we can't consider a better option. We're very close to the base, the property is gated with "courtesy officers" (local police officers) who live on the property (I can see into his apartment from my apartment) and 24-hour emergency maintenance that also live on-property. We don't want to buy a house here, because we don't want to live here for any longer than we need to, and we can't imagine trying to sell a house after only being in it for a year or two. Blah blah blah, lots of reasons why we picked here to rent, blah blah.

So, sometime over the last year or so, we made friends with a young Lieutenant and his fiancee who were in our building, renting a 2-br unit upstairs from us. They fell in love with our dog, we like hanging out with them, it is a win-win situation.

Or it was, anyway. That is, until they got an inkling to move out (they had a psycho roommate, I don't blame them for wanting to move) and found a new, NEWER! SHINIER! SPARKLIER! apartment complex about 20 minutes away from here. And, they have had us over 2x to visit them and really want us to NOT renew our 1-year lease here, and instead move there.

Okay now, say it with me. "No fucking way."

I like my apartment. So does S. We can't imagine him driving that much farther to go to work. The rent is MORE EXPENSIVE at the other apartments, too. There are a multitude of reasons why we - *cough* why I said, that I didn't want to move. But, S. started to get sold on the idea the more he talked to the LT.

I had to remind him that not only does the LT make more money than S. does, but his fiancee is bringing home about the same salary as I make working at home. And while I can do my job anywhere, putting extra miles on the car, buying more gas, paying more in rent (and pet rent) and utilities on different apartment is just a way for us to move backwards. We're already paying around $200 more per month than our housing allowance covers here (since we get screwed by the $400/mo 30-year-old rat trap roach coach apartments just up the street from us, all those places pull the average down). He saw things my way, eventually, but now he has "the itch."

"The Itch," as I call it, is when S. wants to buy new stuff to compensate for not getting to do something else he wanted to do. We briefly discussed getting different furniture, as our living room is a little bit cramped with oversized, overstuffed furniture that we brought with us when we moved. But, that involves cleaning up and selling the furniture we have, getting new furniture, getting it delivered up here or hauling it up the stairs ourselves, rearranging it, and then possibly having a monthly payment for having financed new furniture. Uh. No.

I had an epiphany! "Why don't we," I said, "just start to simply our lives and start getting rid of stuff we don't need and don't use?" The clutter, I justified to myself, would then go away and would free up room around the apartment so we could feel like there was more living area.

And that is how it all started.

Then, the complex told us they were hiring a company to come out and stretch the wrinkles out of our carpet... turns out, they need us to move a lot of furniture out and around from the areas that need to be stretched, so this weekend (since they're coming tomorrow morning) was the PERFECT TIME TO DO THAT.

Hooray! Cleaning, throwing things away, donating stuff to Goodwill, ***AND*** furniture moving! All on the same Sunday! I am so excited!

We tackled the guest room this morning, because it had turned slowly into the "room where we put all the shit we don't know what to do with at the time." I'm proud to say the guest room DOES have a bed, a chest of drawers, a club chair, a desk and a nightstand, and they are FREE OF DEBRIS.

Also, the Dyson vacuum and the stepstool now have a permanent spot inside the hallway closet, since I cleaned that bad mofo of all the clutter that had found its way in THERE.

Our bedroom closet? Clean! There's shelf space! And, all of our luggage actually DOES fit within the confines of the walk-in closet!

About then, S. got "The Itch." Which meant we went out and bought a new fax machine (my old fax machine is very, very old, as in I mean to say it is a relatively huge Panasonic thermal fax machine with a microcassette-tape answering machine in it, and I believe I remember owning the machine in my first apartment in 1991 or 1992. No, I'm not lying. I take good care of the things I own, so yeah it's actually lasted that long. So anyways, since it was taking up space in the guest room on an old particle-board kitchen cart which could be used as storage in the office closet, we chose to eliminate both of those impedments to progress. The cart has gone into the office closet to function as rolling shelving, and the old fax machine is going to go bye-bye.

To go with the new fax machine, we got a rolling cart with shelves in the same color wood as my office desk/equipment so the new fax has a place to live, too. S. is currently out picking up a long phone cord so he can finish getting it all hooked up.

And I have a green garbage bag full of clothes for the Goodwill, as well as two boxes full of kitchen stuff for Goodwill. And the list keeps growing.

Now, we just need to make it through another few days without The Itch again. I would like to be done spending for a little while, even if it is in the name of cleanliness, organization, and not having to change apartments.

Unnamed

I've seen this on a variety of my friends' blogs, and I'm going to go ahead and to it myself, here. The "idea" is to list 15 things that you would love to tell someobdy to their face but perhaps you can't, or haven't, or won't... anybody, alive or dead... and list them here. In listing them out, don't include any names. Just get the stuff off your chest.

So, here. I will.

Starting now.

1. One of the hardest things I ever did in my entire life was come to terms with the fact that you didn't care about me the way I cared about you. I loved you. You loved that I loved you. And there was a huge difference. Sometimes, I miss you. But most days, I don't think about you. I never imagined in the 20 years we knew one another that I would ever want to live a day of my life without you as my friend... and now, I do it every day.

2. When you don't call me for a while, I start to wonder if "today" is going to be the day that I hear you drank yourself to death.

3. You always made me feel different, weird, and separate. It was your job to make me feel loved, understood, and accepted.

4. The realization that your entire life is just a string of mistruths that all add up to one huge lie, perpetuated on a daily basis, makes me pity you. I'm convinced that I'm not the only one who knows that everything you say is a lie. I often wish you would seek the clinical help that you truly need, so you can have some chance at a normal life. I know that won't happen.

5. You're going to die young, alone and unsatisfied. Sadly, I think that's just how you want it.

6. I watched you slowly sink into the depths of mental illness, and there was nothing I could do about it.

7. When my ex-husband saw pictures of you dancing with me at my first wedding, he immediately asked me if you were in love with me. And then, he hated you.

8. I never got over the fact that you tried to force yourself on me sexually when we were hanging out at your apartment. I still felt raped, even though I was able to stop you.

9. I know you hated me because I intimidated you. I know you hated me because my life was everything you wanted your life to be, and that I had what you wanted. But, it didn't make it any easier for me to accept.

10. I am jealous of your baby.

11. Fuck you. It wasn't my fault that he beat me. I didn't deserve the beatings. I didn't deserve the abuse. And for you to suggest that I did something to cause it, well... fuck you.

12. I wish you weren't so vain about your looks. You are an amazing person, and I wish you loved yourself from the inside the way I've had to learn to love myself from the inside.

13. I've known you longer than anybody in my life that I'm not related to. And even though we grew up totally apart, we have ended up with so much in common. I wish we were closer. I wish we talked more.

14. I wish my parents could express their love for me, the way you express your love for me.

15. You could have made me feel like the most important woman in the world. Instead, you made me feel like a whore. I will never forget that.

Whew! Talk about a load off, and a way to release some hormonal pent-up rage.

Happy weekend!

URGH. Yesterday I asked someone to shoot me in the head, so I don't have to be doubled over with menstrual cramps any more.

Yeah.

In other news, for the first day in 3 days I've been able to wake up to the sunshine and blue sky instead of rain, or the threat of rain. So, we are on our way once again out to the farmer's market to try to get some delicious produce for the week.

Then, I dunno what. At this rate, probably a heating pad and some Midol. Urgh.

And now, the obligatory plug:

The Intarwebnets is SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!!!11111oneone

*yawn*

People who have the time to sit on the other side of their computer screen and judge a bunch of people they don't know, probably need to find something more productive to do in their lives.

Honestly. I mean, it's the internet. Seriously. There's a whole world out there to be seen. And there's way more important things to worry about.

Line 'em up, bartender.

At least that's what I said last night.

The funny thing about when you cut back on or essentially quit drinking becuase you're trying to get pregnant, is that when you DO drink then, it's very VERY EASY to get completely looped.

The funny thing about hitting "day one" of my cycle again (you know, when Aunt Flo shows up for her little visit) is this:

1) I said to myself, "Well, crap. If I'm not preggo, I may as well have some wine."

2) S. brought me home a nice bottle of wine to use to make risotto. I shared the bottle with the risotto.

3) I then had some more wine of a different type when I was done sharing that bottle with the risotto.

By about 7pm, I was totally looped. Not HAMMERED, but looped. Just ask Betty, who was (un)fortunate enough to get into an iChat with me at kind of the peak of my tipsiness, before we had dinner.

Yeah.

Then, because I had temporarily numbed myself from the very frustrating pain that comes with Aunt Flo, I was up half the night with it. She was dancing a jig on top of my tummy with little screwdrivers on the bottom of her feet.

My breakfast this morning: Crystal Light Pink Lemonade, 2 Midol, all my vitamins and minerals, and Evening Primrose Oil.

Man, though, was getting a little tipsy very fun. I'm amazed that it took me that little to get drunky...(all teetotaling and no boozing makes Rose a cheap drunk) but, you know what, it's all good.

And, due to some other crap that happened last night, I missed Shitty Blog Radio. Which is pissing me off on a whole different level.

I think I need some more Midol.

--------------------

UPDATE:

I made some Blogathon donations today and wanted to encourage you to do the same. If the IFHF isn't your thing, and that's not a charity you'd normally choose, please try to find a way to reach into your pockets and donate a little - a lot - whatever you can -- to a blogger who's trying to make a difference. I'd like to plug a few of my friends again, with their respective causes. These are folks I have chosen to sponsor myself, too.

Jeckles, blogging for Freedom From Hunger.
aka_Monty, blogging for United Cerebral Palsy.
Webkittyn, blogging for the Humane Society of New York.
Utopia, blogging for Georgia Special Olympics.
Mango Radio, blogging for Autism Awareness.

Please support these amazing bloggers, my friends, who are also blogging for some amazing causes.

Rain, rain, go away

It's raining.

There's just something about getting up in the morning and finding that the sky's opened up while you were asleep, to totally set your day back a few steps.

Fortunately for me, I don't have a whole bunch of work today. And, I did NOT wrangle MORE work just to feel like I was filling up my day. Instead, I'm going to focus on some more house-cleaning and laundry-doing.

When we moved into our apartment about two years ago, it was brand new. We were the first people ever to live in it. As a result, over the couple of years, we've had some "new build" issues to deal with. One of those, it turns out, is carpet stretching.

The carpet wasn't stretched quite tight enough when it was laid in the apartment, and now it's starting to pucker up in a couple of spots. So, before we renew our lease again, the carpet stretching guys are going to come fix it. That happens on the 17th, which is this coming Monday.

Of course, that means that we have to have furniture moved around so they can effectively stretch the carpet. Urgh. That's going to be our big project for the weekend... re-cleaning the guest room (which has turned into the "place to store stuff") and moving the furniture around on Sunday night so the guys can come stretch the carpet.

Of course, the carpet needs stretching in EVERY ROOM. So it's not like we can just move a bunch of stuff around and stick it all in a bedroom (plus, who is gonna come help me move the sectional couch into the office through a standard residential bedroom door? What, no volunteers?)

The only bad news is, they're not going to be able to do it in the office. The bubble in here is relatively non-existent, but still. To be able to move the furniture the way we'd have to is going to be a HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT. We have two gigantic, very heavy, computer-and-equipment-laden desks. And of course, one is on each side of the room. That means they would need us to move one entire desk to be able to effectively stretch the carpet. That's gonna suck.

So anyway, I plan to use today to get halfway caught up around the house and get on top of the "stretch prep." that means a couple loads of laundry and starting to find places for some things. Thank goodness there's a Goodwill just up the road, as we keep making boxes and boxes of things to donate up there. I predict a trip to the Goodwill in our future.

Oh, did you hear that? THUNDERSTORMS! Perfect! I'd better get to work on these two short projects before the weather blows in here too badly. What's the weather like where you are today?

Stuff and things, and stuff.

So there's mucho news-o going around, here at Casa Rose. What with Blogathon coming up, and everything, I have just overlooked mentionting some things.

First and foremost that's on my mind currently is, S. is going to be leaving me again for a TDY (temporary duty, it's like a short deployment), in a couple of weeks. We don't have a firm date yet, but he's going through all the motions right now for outprocessing. So, that means it'll be the first week of August some time.

I'm not really happy about that.

I know, it comes with the territory and it's something that I've learned to live with. But, it's always hard knowing he's going to be gone for 2-3 months (or more). We've been separated for about three months at a time once for every year we've been together.

Lots of other wives have it way worse than that, though. Deployments of unknown length, some of them a year or more, where their husbands are sent into harm's way. My heart and thoughts are CONSTANTLY with those women.

Now, I guess I'm just happy that since he's going August-September-October, that means he'll be home for our anniversar(ies), Thanksgiving, and Yule. The other option was having him gone October-November and part of December, which could have included all the winter holidays.

He's not going directly into harm's way, but once again, I can't discuss where he's going. Meh. He is going out of the country, though, and the mission does involve countries that don't like us much. So there's always some danger, I suppose.

So, that news comes along right after I have gotten my mother to agree to come out here for Thanksgiving this year. I know, I know, y'all are going to think I'm crazy. But, when we were in Phoenix, she was very, VERY NICE TO ME. And I had a freakish moment not long after we got home -- my mother went to PA to see my sister and the grandkids. Well, my mom goes to PA to see my sister and the grandkids 4-5 times a year, and hasn't come out to Oklahoma to visit once since we've lived here. It just finally got to me and I let someone know... which snowballed into her feeling bad about it, not realizing how much it meant to me/us that she come out and see our life (since we think we have a pretty good one) and agreeing to buy tickets to come out here and see us. So now I have to come up with 4 days of fun things to do in Oklahoma. Since we've never really done the "touristy" thing, it should be interesting.

Other than that? I'm going to have a fairly light work day today, so I'm rather excited about that. It means I can maybe get some laundry done. Wheehaw!

How are all of YOU today!?

PEEKtures.

Just some pics, because I have 'em handy.

THIS is my braided hibiscus topiary that S. got me earlier in the season. It is now rife with buds and it makes two different colored blossoms. Lately it's been giving up blossoms that are kind of swirled with red and peach both.

THIS is one of my herb pots. Cinnamon basil, sweet basil, lavender, sage, and cilantro.

The basil is growing out of control and the cinnamon basil has already gone to seed, which is just flabbergasting me! BASIL SEEDS FOR EVERYONE!

This is the other herb pot. Peppermint, lemon thyme, rosemary, jalapeno peppers, banana peppers, and some wee little pepper plants that haven't fruited yet.

Lemon thyme is DELICIOUS, and it grows like a weed. A WEED. And there are so many jalapenos and flowers on the plant that if they all turn into fruit, I'm going to be swimming in peppers!

CHILEHEADS UNITE!

So many thanks

You all are amazing, amazing folks.

We are up to 21 sponsors and over $800 in pledges so far for our Blogathon efforts, thanks to so many of you helping us out and spreading the word.

We couldn't, and can't, do it on our own. We need you, and you've stepped up to help.

Whether you're pledging or calling attention to this amazing charity, or plugging our efforts, you're doing a HUGE service to the men and women of this nation's armed services, especially the ones in need of extra care.

Thank you. SO much.

I have tears in my eyes right now. I am honestly just so proud of all the wives on Team Stale Betty, and I am so SO very proud of YOU.

Thank you.

Because I'm wacky JUST LIKE THAT.

Good morning!

As I sit here procrastinating my work (because hey - it's Monday - what do you expect) I'm cruising around the blogosphere and looking back over the last week, and I decided I should first of all ask you guys' patience and thank you for being so supportive of the Blogathon thing. Although, I can't help but notice that we don't have very many pledges.

I'm trying to figure out something I could do to kick it into gear and get our pledges going. You know, through the roof! To the stratosphere! To infinity and beyond! I'd love to see our pledge numbers go up - up - up.

So, then I was over at a.k.a. Monty's place, and I saw that she is bribing her readership by providing them with audio posts of her singing songs, for every $100 she raises.

I am totally not that creative to have come up with anything. But, I am obviously not above stealing her concept, in general, to generate some interest.

I just don't know what I should do!

Do you guys have any ideas? What would be an interesting little "thing" I could do that you guys would get a kick out of, for every $100 pledged in Blogathon?

We're already gonna do a prize raffle, we're giving away prizes, we're going to play a fun little mystery game, things like that. But uh, I mean, for those of you who are into the instant gratification, what would YOU like... what would push you over the edge and get you to sponsor us?

I'm truly interested in your feedback.

In other news, I'm tired. :)

Money, honey

Just a quickie thing, as I'm on my way out the door.

There are a ton of fabulous bloggers blogging for a ton of fabulous charities in Blogathon. Just in case our charity doesn't suit your fancy, here are some of my friends, who are also members of the Shitty Blogs Club... with a wide variety of charities from which to choose. (thanks to Jeckles for the code, which I stole off his post, to put here):

Sponsor Jeckles to fight Hunger (www.freedomfromhunger.org).
Sponsor Webkittyn to support the Humane Society of New York.
Sponsor aka_Monty to support the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
Sponsor Utopia to support the Special Olympics.
Sponsor Mango Radio to support Autism Awareness.

Or finally, as if I hadn't mentioned it before, Sponsor me and six other amazing military wives, (blogging as a team at Stalebetty.com) to support the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Please, find it in your heart to sponsor a blogger, any blogger, for a charity that you find worthy, this year. It's just one of the many ways we can give back, but it's so so so important.

Plus, being the middle of the summer, you know, people aren't always feeling charitable this time of year. The holiday season is "big time" for charities.

Let's make it Xmas In July for the charity of your choice. Please sponsor a blogger.

And if you are so inclined, please sponsor us.

Thanks a million.

Numa Numa with Feta Cheese-a

Happy Friday. Yes, I just watched the first 30 seconds or so of the kid doing the Numa Numa dance. I can't help myself, sometimes I just need to watch that, or Dr. Tran, or something, to get me in the right frame of mind for my day.

THE WORK WEEK IS DONE.

Honestly, could I be any happier about that? Just gotta do my work today and then it's the weekend again.

We're gonna go try to see Pirates II this weekend. Saturday, probably. My mom had given us Dinner And A Movie for my birthday... so PF Chang's and Pirates II it is.

Plus the farmer's market. Plus Dim Sum. Plus the Asian superstore.

It's gonna be a crazy, shopping-filled weekend.

I'm feeling tired already! Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

The one where she asks you for money

It's that time of year again. I usually talk myself out of doing Blogathon every year. I tell myself that I don't have the energy, or that I don't have the time, or that there's no way I'd be able to do it with my other obligations.

This year, I have no excuse.

I have been asked to participate in Blogathon with an absolutely AMAZING team of fellow military wife bloggers (Stale Betty, Char Marie, Tuna Girl, Maximus, April, and Tess. I'm proud to say I have all these ladies on my blogroll, and would encourage you to check them out.

We, as a team, are going to blog for 24 hours straight over at Stale Betty's place and she's already given us keys to the joint so we can move in and make ourselves comfortable. We are going to be blogging for a charity that's near and dear to our hearts, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Betty did a fabulous job of explaining what the charity is on her blog yesterday, so I am going to give her full credit but I'm just going to reproduce what she posted there:

Yes. Once again, I must ask you all for your money so that together we can help our military men, women and families. We will be blogging every 30 minutes for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which just recently began construction on a 65,000 square foot state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center and advanced training skills center at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam in San Antonio, TX. For those of you unfamiliar with BAMC, it is known for having one of the best burn units in the country. It was already a top of the line hospital but with the added rehab center, it’s going to be even more beneficial to the men and women returning from war with severe burns, amputations and other life-changing injuries. Funding for the construction has been met but donations are still needed to purchase medical equipment and supplies. Any small bit helps. Sign up to sponsor us.

Facts and Statistics

To date more than 20,000 men and women have been wounded in operations in Afghanistan and Iraq

According to U.S Senate research, is that the amputation rate has doubled: 6% of those injured in Iraq have amputations compard with 3% in previous wars..

As of April 30, there were 268 amputees, 41 of whom had lost two limbs. There are triple amputees, according to Walter Reed Officials. Unfortunately, these numbers will continue to rise.

Over all 90 percent of soldiers wounded in Iraq survive. In Vietnam, only 76 percent of the wounded did so.

Hundreds of soldiers have been severely burned, and some initial reports indicate that soldiers have suffered eye injuries at a rate far higher than any previous war.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund has contributed over $14 million to military families, but as the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, unfortunately many more families will need our help.

-----------

The team, under Betty's leadership, already has some great ideas to keep the blogathon entertaining for anyone who wants to join us on our journey and read as we write. We've got games planned, prizes planned, and a lot of fun is waiting to be had. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SPONSORSHIP.

Back to work!

Good morning!

So, here's part of the reason why I haven't been around, as if there's anybody who even cares any more. Bleah. I made a little "resolution" to myself when I came home from vacation, that I was only going to work 6-8 hours a day and that I'm not going to obssess over work. In addition, I also decided that I'm gonna take off the days that I want to take off, without guilt and without feeling like my clients are pressuring me into doing something I don't want to do.

So, I've been working until 4pm or 5pm. S. is back on days, and is back being day shift lead, which is where he belongs! Whee! And as a result, it's become very easy for me to go ahead and just say, yeah, my work is done at a reasonable hour.

The downside? I am making myself get UP and OUT of the office when work is done, which leaves on opportunities for blogging or anything. I'm going to start using the laptop in another room for blogging, I think. (If I sit at the main computer at non-work times, then I stress about work).

So!

I had FOUR DAYS OFF for the 4th of July (I hope everybody had a great holiday). I had two days that were just basically... bullshit days where I was in a funk. I admit it, I was in a funk. A FUNK. On Sunday, there was nothing that could have possibly made me happy or okay. Sigh. One of those days, you know?

But, Saturday! Saturday I got to see Kae and we went to have Thai food, and then we went to Starbuck's and watched the fireworks over Tinker AFB. That was good times, and I can't wait until we get to do that again.

Then, Monday, we ended up farting around a lot of the day and spending some time with a couple we got to know when they lived above us. They invited us over for dinner, and we were happy to oblige. They're trying to get us to consider moving to where they moved, another (more expensive) apartment complex in the city. I doubt we're going to be moving. Moving, so not worth it.

We did come out of the weekend with a new patio set, with swivel rocking-type chairs. Go, us! Now we'll be able to sit out there for a lot longer time... our other chairs just weren't very comfortable, and after a while we were struggling to be able to find a way to "manage" to stay outside.

And then this morning? I get up, and every piece of pool furniture is in the swimming pool. Even glass-top tables. Some young punks must have hopped the fence last night and pushed it all in as a prank. Little fuckers. Apparently they didn't realize there's a 24-hour security camera on the swimming pool area. I think that might be an evictable offense. Yes, yes, I believe it is. Especially if one of the glass top tables broke into the pool.

Now today for my worktime entertainment I will get to watch the maintenance guys fish it out of the bottom of the pool. :(

Welcome to Monday, except it's Wednesday.
